Samuel Stowers

Sam is a 19 year-old first year college student living in San Francisco. His planned major is computer science, but he's especially passionate about applying quantitative techniques to sociology. Last year, Sam was invited to the Thiel Fellowship Summit, developed a prototype for his startup (despite no previous coding experience), tested it with an international group of users, and began a gap year. During his gap year, he worked with the founder of the largest TEDx in the US, Mike Lundgren, to organize TEDxYouthKC as well as several smaller TED-related events. This year, Sam was admitted into Minerva Schools (1.9% acceptance rate) and began studying with an international cohort of students. He's excited to visit 7 countries over the next 4 years as part of his college program. When not working on his various projects, Sam enjoys playing satirical ukulele songs, drawing, and riding his rollerblades around the city.
